Women’s Physical Performance Lead
To manage and implement all aspect of physical preparation to ensure peak performance of the senior women’s squad and also manage the women’s physical performance staff at all age levels including pathways.

Location: National Centre of Excellence
Hours of work: 35 hours per week
There is a degree of unsociable hours, weekend work and overseas travel as part of this role and additional hours may be required.

Contractual status: Permanent, full time. Subject to 6-month probationary period
The Person
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years full-time work as a Strength & Conditioning Coach at the senior level of professional sport.
- Proven experience in managing physical preparation in high-pressure, tournament-based environments to inform decision making
Desirable
- Experience as a Strength & Conditioning Coach with both male and female athletes in a professional rugby or elite sports capacity.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- A qualification at degree level (or equivalent) in sports science or related area specialising in physical preparation of elite female athletes
Desirable
- UK Strength and Conditioning Association Accreditation, or ability to obtain it within 6 months
- Experience in using GPS, force platforms, and athlete monitoring software (e.g., Smartabase, Catapult, VALD).
- Welsh Language skills desirable
The Role
Key Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities
- Planning of all National Women’s training camps/competitions and tours
- Programming and implementation of all aspects of S + C including periodised individual plans
- Create and develop a high performing, inspiring and world leading elite sports environment
- Provide S&C support/guidance where required to all WRU Women’s competitive programmes outside of National Squad campaigns
- Liaising with Women’s National Team coaches on individual needs of players in order to achieve high performance
- Managing all Women’s Physical Performance staff within the WRU Group
- Developing relationships with S + C staff within regional and club rugby to ensure players arrive into Wales camp in the best physical and mental shape possible
- Ensure that continual improvement of methods and facilities is gained by regular CPD and research to ensure best practice
- Design and oversee injury preventions strategies and RTP conditioning plans with medical staff
- Ensure players meet physical benchmarks prior to reintegration
- Perform matchday duties in all National Women’s Wales matches
- Gathering detailed training and game GPS/Work rate data to ensure training is functional for international rugby
- Plan and conduct physical/fitness testing on players to continually drive standards and ensure objectivity and clarity
- Travel domestically and internationally with the team during camps and competitions
- Carry out duties in support of the WRU Group Strategic Mission, Purpose and Values
