Women’s National Squad Lead Physiotherapist
Managing the delivery and development of Physiotherapy services for elite Welsh Women’s players in conjunction with relevant WRU professional staff.
Closing Date: 23 September 2025
Salary: £55,000 to £61,500
Location: Principality Stadium, Cardiff / WRU National Centre of Excellence, Hensol.
Hours of work: 35 per week, with a requirement to work flexibly, evenings and weekends as necessary, including time overseas.
Responsible to: Women’s game & International Pathways Medical Manager and National Lead (Medical).
Contractual status: Permanent, full time. Subject to 6-month probationary period

Experience and Knowledge
- Experience working or competing in elite sport
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance
Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- BSc in Physiotherapy
- CSP membership and HCPC registration
- Excellent IT Skills, specifically Microsoft package
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Current pitch side training qualifications to meet the WRU Minimum Standards Criteria
Desirable
- MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine
- Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate and work through the medium of Welsh is desirable
The Role
Key Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities
As a member of the WRU Medical team, the post holder will:
- Be present at all training days and fixtures for the Women’s National Squad
- Collaborate with the Women's National Squad physical performance team to provide interventions which enhance the physical resilience and wellbeing of the players
- When there are no commitments with the Women’s National Squad, the post holder may on occasion be requested to assist with Physiotherapy services (inclusive of matches or training) delivered to other WRU pathway teams. This request will be directed by the WRU Women’s game and International Pathway Manager
- Undertake pre- and post-campaign screening of Women’s National Squad players to include medical history, demographic data, cognitive baseline testing, cardiac screening, consent and musculoskeletal assessment
- Recruit and manage appropriate ancillary medical support for the Women’s National Squad
- Provide Physiotherapy services outside of recognized competition windows to WRU Women’s National Squad players with long-term injuries
- Maintain up to date medical records as per professional body standards using the WRU IT communications platform
- Communicate information regarding injuries with players, their parents, coaches and team management and other relevant player stakeholders, whilst observing the rules governing professional confidentiality and General Data Protection Regulation
- Be compliant with all relevant World Rugby player welfare and participation training modules
- Act in accordance with World Rugby and WRU protocols for graded return to play during the management of concussion injury incurred by Women’s National team players, and be familiar with use of the SCRM app as part of this process
- Ensure all WRU Minimum Medical Standards Criteria are met for annual compliance evaluation for the Women’s programme
- Attend, contribute to and provide regular reports at appropriate meetings associated with the Women’s programme and to key stakeholders
- Participate in applied research across the organisation as appropriate, including collection of injury surveillance data
- Attend national meetings and workshops, training courses and visit national sites on occasion and as appropriate
- Any other duties as may be requested

WRU Requirements
The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Valid UK driving licence is required
- This role is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and reviewed regularly in line with regulated activity and policy requirements
