PDC Therapist - North
We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Chartered Physiotherapist or Graduate Sports Therapist to join a medical team dedicated to providing world class medical and health support to emerging elite women and girl’s rugby players in North Wales, ensuring players are prepared for the demands of professional and international rugby.
The purpose of this role is to lead the medical provision for the Player Development Centre North (PDC North), delivering a consistently high standard of medical provision for women and girls throughout the PDC, the partner college (Coleg Llandrillo), and associated Satellite Centres, aligned with national strategies to optimise player development and progression. The role will play a critical part in delivering the WRU strategic objective of ‘developing more and better players for the professional game and for Wales through life enriching experiences’.

The Person
The successful candidate will be a Qualified Physiotherapist, Sports Rehabilitator, or Sports Therapist (registered with the Health Care Professions Council, BASRaT or STT affiliated) with a minimum of 2 years of experience supporting age grade athletes for professional and/or international sport. Preferably with experience in supporting female athletes, they will also hold or can obtain a pitch-side immediate care qualifications (including WRU Introduction to Immediate Care in Rugby, RFU Level 2 ICIS course, and 2-day Lubas Medical Sports Trauma Management), have undertaken the necessary CPD specific to sport and exercise medicine to meet the demands of their professional body, and possess appropriate professional indemnity.
The successful candidate will also possess a demonstrable understanding of the physical and physiological needs of female athletes aged 16–24, including considerations around growth, maturation, female health and injury prevention. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills are essential, with the ability to establish and maintain networks across schools, colleges, PDCs, and national pathways while working effectively within a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with coaches, medical staff, and national programme leads.
The Role
By leading medical and player health provision at PDC North, the role is responsible for supporting the effective progression and transition of North Walian players through the pathway from schools/college to national programmes.
This will be achieved by:
- Delivering medical provision and injury rehabilitation at PDC training and match days.
- Implementing medical screening and injury monitoring of all PDC and Satellite players (including medical history, demographic data, concussion baseline testing, consent and musculoskeletal assessment).
- Provision of pitch side medical care at Coleg Llandrillo Girl’s WSC Rugby fixtures and a weekly clinic at Coleg Llandrillo for all players.
- Lead on the staffing and organisation of Satellite Centre sessions, including the recruitment of sessional staff where needed.
- In conjunction with Women’s Pathway Therapist, help to deliver and implement female athlete health initiatives, including injury prevention and player education.
- At the discretion of the Women’s Pathway Therapist, and whilst ensuring continuity of cover at PDC North, provide medical services to the Wales Women U20s and U18s programmes.
- Be an active member of PDC North management team and the wider Welsh Rugby medical community bringing ideas and practice to our ways of working.
WRU Requirements
The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver's License is desirable. This role is subject to a enhanced DBS check.

- Darparu gofal meddygol ar ochr y cae yng ngemau Rygbi WSC merched Coleg Llandrillo a chlinig wythnosol yng Ngholeg Llandrillo i'r holl chwaraewyr.
- Arwain ar staffio a threfnu sesiynau'r Canolfannau Lloeren, gan gynnwys recriwtio staff tymhorol lle bo angen.
- Ar y cyd â Therapydd Llwybr y Menywod, helpu i gyflwyno a gweithredu mentrau iechyd athletwyr benywaidd, gan gynnwys atal anafiadau ac addysg chwaraewyr.
- Ar ddisgresiwn Therapydd Llwybr y Menywod, a chan sicrhau parhad gwasanaeth yn PDC Gogledd, darparu gwasanaethau meddygol i raglenni dan 20 a dan 18 Menywod Cymru.
- Bod yn aelod gweithredol o dîm rheoli PDC Gogledd a chymuned feddygol ehangach Rygbi Cymru, gan ddod â syniadau ac ymarfer i'n ffyrdd o weithio.
